When visiting Elora, be sure to pack an adventurous spirit along with hiking shoes, swim gear, bicycle, and a camera! Cycle a portion of the Trans-Canada Trail, which links Elora with other rural communities. Or explore the area on walking trails in the village and the Elora Gorge Conservation Area. Discover trails that descend to the river’s edge in the midst of terrific limestone cliffs and caves. Outdoor enthusiasts can kayak, swim or “tube” down the Grand River on a rubber inner tube. Try a zipline across the gorge or a hot air balloon ride all surrounded by the some of the most incredible scenery in southern Ontario.
Elora and its surrounding area is home to several events and festivals year-round. If you are seeking theatre, the nearby Theatre Orangeville, located in historic downtown Orangeville, is dedicated to almost exclusively using works by Canadian playwrights. Or, there is the internationally recognized Stratford Festival that runs annually from April to October in the city of Stratford.
Shifting to music, the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival is held at the beginning of June, or there is the Elora Festival in July. The Elora Festival is three weeks of world-class artists and music, held right here in Elora and encompasses all forms of classical music, jazz and folk. Riverfest Elora, now in its tenth year, is three days of art, food trucks, community and music. Every year the incredible line up gets better and better, featuring MGMT, Chromeo, Metric, Walk Off The Earth, Serena Rider and more!
Elora is one of Canada’s preeminent fly fishing destinations. Fly fishers from around the globe travel to the Grand River for its plethora of fish, scenic, remote setting and flat, easy wading sections. The Canadian National Fly Fishing Championship is held in Fergus and Elora in June.
Held every August, the Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland Games is a three-day event that celebrates local Scottish heritage and features world-renowned talent and entertainment in the beautiful town of Fergus, Ontario. The games are a true celebration of Scottish culture, in the spirit of promoting and preserving the cultural heritage, from the arts and ancestry to the traditional competitions of sport. Having earned the title of the oldest 3-day Scottish Festival in North America attracting over 30,000 visitors, this event is a must-see.
