1851 to Present
The Most Resilient of Elora’s Industrial Buildings.
Originally known as the Henderson Block, the Walser was built in 1851 and survived the fire of 1873 that levelled its neighbours on Elora’s south industrial site, going on to become home to the Mundell Cabinet Factory. From 1910, Joseph Walser joined as one of four owners, becoming sole owner by 1919 – and after his death in 1942, his three sons carried the family business forward until its sale in 1966. The building continued life as a factory under Simmons Limited and then Little Folks, until it fell vacant in 2004.
Two decades of decay followed. By 2023, its remaining walls had to be carefully disassembled for safety, until Elora Mill acquired the property with a single intention: to build the Walser back into a landmark once more.

Reviving the Past With the Promise of Tomorrow
The Story Continues.
Between 2025 and 2026, Elora Mill meticulously restored the structure while remaining as true to the original building as possible. Today, the historic building features guest rooms, a restaurant and an inviting event space.
The exterior was thoughtfully rebuilt to reflect its original form and footprint, incorporating stone from the original construction and maintaining the original window and door openings. The iconic chimney is the one element that has stood since 1851, now stabilized and restored as the anchor of the entire rehabilitation.

1873
Site fire destroys neighbouring factories, the Walser stands.
1875
Walser becomes the home to the Mundell Cabinet Factory.
1910
Factory auctioned to four businessmen, including Joseph Walser.
1942
Walser’s three sons inherit and expand the furniture business.
1966
Sold to Simmons Limited, who continued to use the building to produce furniture.
1986
Sold to Little Folks, who manufactured scaled-down children’s furniture.
2004
Manufacturing ends; the building falls vacant.
2011
Elora Mill acquired the Walser Building – the eighth restoration project the company would undertake in Elora.
2023
Where possible, original materials were carefully disassembled and given new life in the restoration.
2026
Restoration complete, the Walser collection opens.
